CEMEX, a global building materials company that owns 3 cement plants, 2 grinding mills, 7 aggregates quarries, and 30 ready-mix concrete plants, has been selected as a major cement supplier for the phase I of 311 MW Reventazón hydroelectric plant construction project in Costa Rica.
The company will supply 50,000 tons of cement for the project. When completed, the Reventazón plant, which is worth US$ 1.2 billion, will be the biggest plant in Central America. This renewable energy project is expected to be completed in 2016.
Reventazón hydroelectric plant construction is managed by the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity. The institute had specific cement requirements for use in the renewable energy plant. CEMEX supplies the cement that meets all these requirements. The cement from CEMEX has enhanced durability, high workability, and less heat hydration.
President of CEMEX Costa Rica, Carlos González, states that the company is proud of being named as the primary supplier for the largest renewable energy project. He also says that CEMEX has gained an opportunity to deliver a unique solution with its specialty cement products to the customers.
