SNC-Lavalin, an engineering and construction group, declared that it has contracted an accord with Nalcor Energy to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the first phase of the Lower Churchill Project.
The project is a part of the Muskrat Falls Hydroelectric Development and located in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
The first phase of the Lower Churchill Project will include a power production facility at the Muskrat Falls with a capability to generate 824 MW. The transmission system planned for the project will include erecting of around 1,200 km of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) above the head transmissions lines intersecting from Labrador to the Newfoundland Island through under the sea cables and related converter stations. It will also include a High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) above the head power transmission lines linking the Muskrat Falls facility to the power generating station of Churchill Falls. The work for the project will commence soon.
According to Patrick Lamarre, SNC-Lavalin Group’s Executive Vice-President, the contract manifests the expertise and capability of the company in the power industry and provides the company one more occasion to prove its advanced acquirements in the domestic market and affirms the allegiance of the company to deliver projects locally.
