Code compliance is vital to the safety of structures and understanding code provisions related to the construction of concrete structures is key to a higher level of compliance.
A recent publication from Portland Cement Association, Concrete Inspection Handbook, brings information on several building codes’ requirements together in one manual. The handbook provides code enforcement personnel with a coherent and logical presentation of code provisions governing concrete construction, including explanation andbackground. The fourth edition of Concrete Inspection Handbook, based on ACI 318-05, features a cross-reference index that allows one to search from any of the three legacy codes, IBC, or the ACI 318 standard, and locate the corresponding section numbers in the other four documents and identify the page in this publication that discusses the topic. This handbook is a must read for building officials, plans examiners, and field inspection personnel as well as others seeking certification as an ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector or ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector.
It will also be useful for others involved in the design, specification, inspection, and construction of concrete structures. For more information or to order, visit the PCA Bookstore at www.cement.org/bookstore.
