The world’s leading manufacturer of reliable windows and doors, JELD-WEN, is receiving industry honors for extending its product line to include garage doors that bring both high style and high performance to today’s homes. The JELD-WEN® Estate Series and Carriage House garage doors were honored in the July 2005 issue of Building Products, in the magazine’s annual MVP rankings. The MVP Awards highlight new products and their benefits for builders.
“This award validates the desire we’ve found in the marketplace for stylish garage doors that stand up to the elements and will look great for years to come,” said Dave Hill, director of sales and marketing for JELD-WEN garage doors.
“Builders are discovering all the ways that wood composite garage doors can enhance a home’s style and security.”
Beauty is more than skin deep with JELD-WEN garage doors. JELD-WEN is the only manufacturer using innovative wood composite technology to bring maximum performance and the hottest new “Old World” looks to garage doors. Complete with decorative hardware options, including clavos, straps and knockers, the JELD-WEN Estate Series provides fashionable choices for a Mediterranean or Old World garage door look. These doors also offer old-fashioned appeal with multi-plank, grooved designs and a realistic woodgrain appearance. JELD-WEN Carriage House garage doors are offered in 27 styles, from a classic swinging-door style to traditional Craftsman and more modern looks, complete with unique trim details and beautiful woodgrain patterns. Many of these new designs mimic the look of swinging doors, yet they operate as lift-style garage doors.
Garry Stewart, president of the Ohio-based International Door Association, recently told The Columbian newspaper in Vancouver, Wash., why wood garage doors have declined in favor of composite materials like JELD-WEN’s.
“If you use wood on a south or west exposure, especially if it’s a darker color, with the rapid solar gain of the heat, it can deteriorate the patina out of the wood and it falls apart,” he said. Stewart said the resurgence of the carriage house door trend is nationwide, “and in a residential situation it has taken on a life of its own.”
Carriage house doors might include faux handles, wrought iron accents, strap hinges and other embellishments to make the doors “look rustic, and of the era they’re trying to put forth,” he said.
JELD-WEN garage doors signal a major evolution as the only wood composite garage doors available on the market today. Wood composite garage door technology offers a distinct advantage when it comes to an affordable, low-maintenance alternative to real wood. Unlike standard steel garage doors that may be covered in plastic or wood, JELD-WEN wood composite doors are made from the same durable material throughout–from the trim to the face of the door. The continuity of material ensures the doors will remain structurally stable, and no joints means they are reliable and perform exceptionally well, with no cracking, sagging, separating or shrinking, even in extreme temperatures.
All JELD-WEN garage doors reflect the beauty and resiliency of wood, without the expense and upkeep, and the performance of steel, without the dents or rust, and are backed by a five-year limited warranty.
