CarbonCast® High Performance Insulated Wall Panels from AltusGroup precasters deliver all the benefits of factory precast with unprecedented thermal efficiency in a fully structurally composite panel.
The panels are comprised of two concrete wythes separated by rigid foam insulation boards connected by C-GRID® carbon fiber grid shear trusses. The relatively low thermal conductivity of C-GRID delivers a load-bearing panel with continuous insulation (c.i.) values to steady-state R-37 or higher, depending on panel thickness and type of foam insulation. The insulating performance of panels can result in a reduction of HVAC first costs and provide ongoing energy savings.
The December 2010 receipt of International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) acceptance criteria for the panel’s carbon fiber grid connector expands the potential use of the product into municipalities and building jurisdictions that require ICC-ES certification.
CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels are:
Superior at load bearing: Vertical panels are available for both load-bearing and non-structural applications. As a load-bearing wall exterior wall, they can eliminate the need for structural steel around the perimeter and provide more useable floor space. They can be manufactured in thicknesses of 7" to 12", with widths up to 15' and heights of 50' or more.
Energy efficient and lighter in weight: The exceptional strength of C-GRID trusses allow AltusGroup precasters to use less concrete and more insulating foam to reduce embedded energy and thin panels which also provides more useable interior floor space. And, the use of C-GRID as a wythe connector enables the panels to offer continuous insulation to meet ASHRAE 90.1 standards.
Dry and mold-free: Unlike wet brick and block insulated cavity walls, CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels prevent water infiltration. The panels have no voids or cavities where air or water can combine for mold and mildew growth.
Like conventional precast wall panels, CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panels can accommodate a variety of finishes and articulations, including sandblasting, reveals, bullnoses, cornices, thin brick, medallion insets and others to meet aesthetic needs.
