For home builders and remodelers looking to add fine details and dimension to a home’s exterior, CMI has expanded its MiraTEC® product line to include four crown moulding profiles. CMI introduced the new MiraTEC Treated Exterior Composite Mouldings at the 2011 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla., January 12-15.
The smooth-surfaced, engineered wood composite mouldings serve as a functional, economical alternative to PVC and fiber cement products. MiraTEC mouldings handle like wood, which makes them easier to work with than fiber cement, and they offer the durability and long-term performance benefits of PVC at a lower cost.
Factory-primed on four sides with a low VOC primer that contains a mildewcide, the new mouldings accept all shades of paint beautifully and are backed by a 50-year warranty covering hail damage, delamination, decomposition due to fungal growth, splitting and cracking, excessive swelling and buckling, as well as damage from termites.
“Since 1999, the MiraTEC product line has combined convenience with high-quality performance to become a trusted option for exterior applications,” said Bob Merrill, CMI president and CEO. “Our new crown mouldings are a perfect accent to any exterior cladding and make it easy to quickly add curb appeal without breaking the budget.”
MiraTEC, which is made from sustainable materials and renewable resources, is created using CMI’s patented and proprietary TEC manufacturing process that was developed specifically to make trim. During manufacturing, wood fibers and other ingredients are bonded under heat and pressure, combined with environmentally preferable phenolic resins for moisture resistance, and treated with zinc borate, an EPA-registered wood preservative, for added protection against rot and termite damage. MiraTEC trim has no knots or voids like wood, so it eliminates waste. Plus, it is not prone to thermal expansion.
Additionally, MiraTEC was recently recognized by an accredited third-party testing agency for its superior ability to withstand exposure to the elements. Following extensive weatherability testing1 of MiraTEC and several hardboard trim brands, MiraTEC trim exhibited the lowest percentage of residual swelling of all exterior trim samples. MiraTEC performed more than nine times better in long-term performance than one hardboard trim sample, over six times better than another and nearly three times better than the third sample tested.
