Lumeta, Inc. announced today that it was awarded TÜV InterCert certification for its patented PowerPly™ roof integrated photovoltaic (PV) solar module in accordance with IEC compliance for IEC 61215 and IEC 61730.
Lumeta also announced that it has started business operations in Europe and has opened an office in Nice, France. Six PowerPly test sites are now operational with major European partners. The first European commercial installation in Prague of 90kWp was completed in November.
“The PowerPly 400Wp module represents a significant breakthrough in c-Si module technology, which has remained largely unchanged for years. We have all the benefits of using a proven monocrystalline cell, but with a form factor that allows direct integration to the roofing membrane,” said Jonathan Pickering, EVP and GM of Lumeta. “PowerPly is unique in the industry and the attainment of IEC compliance is an important milestone.”
The PowerPly 400Wp module combines a DuPont™ Tefzel® front sheet and a lightweight composite substrate with high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells to maximize power density, eliminating the glass and aluminum frame structure of conventional modules. PowerPly is designed for low slope applications as it adheres directly to the roof without racking, reducing system weight and eliminating wind loading issues. With no roof penetrations, PowerPly prevents water leaks and costly roof maintenance while significantly reducing installation time and balance of system costs.
“The IEC certification is just one of many milestones on PowerPly's road to success. Much more important is the feedback our team has received from sophisticated customers internationally,” said Tim Davey, CEO of Lumeta’s parent company, DRI Companies. “Our customers consistently validate the design of PowerPly, as they express their appreciation of the fact that PowerPly is the first commercial rooftop module to simultaneously address the issues of weight constraints, wind uplift, reduced BOS and labor costs while maintaining outstanding power density.”
Lumeta PowerPly is being manufactured in Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd.’s specialized building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) facility in Wuxi, China; Suntech is the world's leading manufacturer of solar modules.
