Skanska (STO:SKAB) has been assigned to construct Brent Civic Centre in the Greater London Area.
The contract amount is around GBP 85 M, about SEK 930 M, which will be included in fourth-quarter order bookings. The customer is Brent Council.
The new Brent Civic Centre will be a nine-story building comprising approximately 40,000 square meters. The building, which will boast a strong environmental profile with a target of becoming the first public building in the UK to achieve an Outstanding BREEAM certification; the highest level awarded in the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, BREEAM.
The Brent Civic Centre, which will be located within the Wembley regeneration area opposite Wembley Stadium will include accommodation for up to 2,000 staff and councillors and provide outstanding community facilities. At ground, mezzanine and first floor levels, the building will include main foyer and reception, state of the art new library and learning centre, Council Services Centre, Registrars services, wedding suite and wedding garden, partner organisations, restaurant, retail space, a large community hall and a winter garden as well as training facilities.
The upper levels will feature administrative offices, the Civic Hall and roof garden, Committee Rooms and the councillors and Mayor's offices. The basement will be used for parking and mechanical plant among other things.
Construction work will begin immediately and is scheduled for completion in December 2012.
Skanska is the leading green company in the UK and has received the Sunday Times Best Green Company Award.
Skanska UK reported revenues of SEK 18 billion in 2009, with about 4,800 employees. The company is active in building and civil construction, utilities and building services. In the UK Skanska is also a leader within the sector for Public Private Partnerships, PPP, also known as Privately Financed Initiative, PFI.
