New York City Awards Contract to Mulvihill ICS for Streetlight Installation in Staten Island

New York City’s ongoing attention to reducing energy costs continues with the installation of new, energy efficient streetlights.

To complete this work in the Borough of Staten Island, the city’s Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to Mulvihill ICS, Inc., a New York-based subsidiary of American Traffic Solutions Inc., which operates in Arizona and New York.

ATS/Mulvihill will furnish, install or maintain nearly 50,000 electronic 100-watt and 150-watt, energy efficient cobra head innovative streetlight fixtures in the borough’s roadways, parks and publicly owned parking lots.

New York City’s Department of Transportation operates an extensive street-lighting system involving 262,000 lights on streets, bridges and underpasses, 12,000 in parks and 26,000 on highways. It makes up one of the largest municipal street-lighting systems in the country.

ATS began its relationship with New York City in 1994 with a contract to install, operate and maintain Intersection Safety Cameras. Currently, there are nearly 200 Intersection Safety Cameras in the city.
