CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (NYSE: CX) announced today that it is one of the main concrete suppliers for the Gaoyin 117 project in Tianjin, China, which, upon completion, will be one of the tallest buildings in Asia.
So far, the company has supplied nearly 95,000 cubic meters of concrete for the underground engineering of the project.
At a height of 598 meters when completed, the Gaoyin 117 project will require over 500,000 cubic meters of ready-mix concrete in order to build its 117 stories. The project, which began construction in 2008, will take between five and seven years to complete and will require a total investment of nearly $3 billion.
“The Gaoyin 117 project is a major milestone for CEMEX’s operations in Asia. We are very proud to be the supplier of choice for what will be a landmark building in the Chinese landscape,” says Jaime Ruiz de Haro, CEMEX President for Philippines and Asia Region.
CEMEX is the main supplier for the foundation, which will require 941 concrete piles, which are long structures that are placed deep into the ground where the building will lie. Concrete piles provide strength and stability to the overall building structure.
