Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex: BKR), announced today that it and project team members have been selected by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to provide construction oversight services for the $103 million, design-build, Milton-Madison Ohio River Bridge project.
This vital river crossing connects Madison, Indiana, with Milton, Kentucky, along route US 421.
Specifically, Baker will provide project management, plan reviews, shop drawing reviews, construction management and inspection services, public involvement coordination, and environmental oversight during final design and construction of the bridge. Baker and its team members were chosen for the three-year, $8.9 million contract based on their previous performance on the preliminary engineering and environmental study-phase services of the project, knowledge of the design-build process, and large bridge construction management experience.
Tom Zagorski, P.E., senior vice president and national construction services director, said, “We are extremely pleased to continue our involvement with the Milton-Madison Bridge project and our relationship with both INDOT and KYTC. This replacement bridge is a high priority for these important clients and the region, and we have assembled a strong team to meet the task and schedule challenges of the accelerated construction method planned for the project.”
