Sarnafil Inc. Wins 2005 Rebuild America Award

Sarnafil Inc., a leading manufacturer of high quality thermoplastic, single ply roofing and waterproofing systems, has earned Premier Business Partner honors from Rebuild America, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) conservation initiative, for the second consecutive year.

The announcement was made by Jay Thomas, director of marketing, Sarnafil Inc., who said the company also received Rebuild America’s Energy Champion Award in 2002. This year, Sarnafil joined 23 other partners to receive the award for its strong participation in Rebuild America - sponsored events —most notably a series of technical seminars presented in communities across the U.S. Sarnafil was rated in the top 15% overall of Rebuild Allied Partners by the DOE.

“Sarnafil has a strong commitment to the Rebuild America and Energy$mart schools program,” said Peter D’Antonio, education facilities market manager, Sarnafil Inc. “Sarnafil works closely with colleges, universities and public school districts to promote energy efficiency, awareness of energy related issues and the environment and the reinvestment of energy savings in energy related programs such as the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Roof Products program.”

Cool roofs, such as Sarnafil’s EnergySmart Roof®, help educational facilities lower energy demand by reflecting the sun’s energy before it is absorbed. This reduces the heat gain within buildings, lowering energy demand required for building air conditioning as well as reducing the demand on fossil fuel power plants. Integrating the roof with flexible photovoltaic panels provides further savings by allowing schools to use their roofs to generate electricity.

The Solar Integrated Roofing System, which Sarnafil offers in conjunction with Solar Integrated Technologies, allows schools to turn their roofs into energy generating assets. This innovative photovoltaic roofing solution is being used by the San Diego City Schools and Clark County (Las Vegas) Public Schools to save thousands in electricity costs.

“We’re proud of our growing relationships with our Allied Partners in industry,” said Daniel Sze, Rebuild America program manager. “Transformation or deployment – whatever you call it – begins and ends with energy projects. You get faster and stronger commitments to change when industry and the government agree on solutions. These projects advance the goals of energy independence and energy security. Industry gets the work done.”

The Rebuild America Business Partners offer technologies including lighting, mechanical systems, geothermal, solar, wind, and services such as performance contracting and commissioning. One of the key activities in Rebuild America is a series of energy technology seminars. As part of these seminars, Rebuild America community partnerships convene facility managers, architects, building owners, government officials, and corporate executives for an intense day of learning about the most advanced energy efficiency technologies. Rebuild America sponsored 51 such seminars in FY2004 and is conducting more than 60 in 2005.

Sarnafil has participated in a number of Rebuild America projects including the San Diego Public Schools, the Tolleson Arizona wastewater treatment plant and the Clark County Nevada Public Schools.
