Acuity Brands, a market leader in innovative energy efficient lighting and control solutions, has joined the effort to renovate a major New York convention center using its Holophane® brand of highbay luminaires.
The Holophane brand has served the lighting industry for over 110 years and provides lighting systems for a range of commercial, industrial and outdoor applications.
Located on the banks of the Hudson River in New York City, the Jacob Javits Convention Center is undergoing a 3 year renovation initiative incorporating upgrades and facelifts to much of the facility. Two parts of the renovation involve re-lighting of the main convention center space and creating the largest “green” roof in the northeastern United States. This major re-lighting project started this summer and will phase through 2013.
The main thrust of the lighting portion of the renovation consists of replacing the existing highbay luminaires with solution-driven Holophane Prismpack® High Bay luminaires. The Javits Center’s goals include enhanced quality of illumination, energy savings, reduction in overall maintenance costs, and improved aesthetics. A unique component of the lighting used for this project is a partially perforated cover on the Prismpack luminaire to provide a very controlled amount of uplight and a differentiated aesthetic appearance.
"We completed a number of conceptual renderings and physical mock-ups before the customer was satisfied that the perforations (location and quantity) met their expectations," explains Robert Petro, Acuity Brands Lighting Regional Sales Vice President, Holophane. The lighting was specified by Javits 2 Architecture and a consortium headed by Bruce Fowle of Fox and Fowle. The lighting consultant is Fisher Marantz Stone (FMS) and the construction manager is Tishman Construction.
Available with new ISD SuperGlass™ reflectors that provide unparalleled performance and uniformity, Holophane Prismpack luminaires are the perfect fixtures for a variety of high bay applications including industrial, commercial and educational facilities. The covered reflectors provide minimal uplight and are also especially suited for dirty or industrial environments. Available with a wide range of HID lamps and ballasts, Prismpack luminaires deliver required lighting levels in an energy efficient manner. Prismpack luminaires have a very robust design and include corrosion resistant materials and coatings and life-long borosilicate prismatic glass reflectors. Prismpack luminaires feature tool-free mechanisms and covered open glass optics that simplify installation, ensure efficient light output, and low maintenance.
