STRABAG, the largest construction company in Central and Eastern Europe, received the contract to design and build the extension and renovation of Täby Centrum (shopping center) in Stockholm, Sweden.
While STRABAG is already a major player in civil engineering in Northern Europe, this project constitutes one of the first major projects in the Scandinavian commercial building sector. The contract is worth a triple-digit million-Euro amount.
STRABAG will accomplish the construction of Täby Centrum through its new Swedish subsidiary STRABAG Projektutveckling AB. STRABAG’s other subsidiaries in Scandinavia, ODEN Anläggningsentreprenad AB and Zublin Scandinavia AB, are focused on civil engineering and infrastructure.
The current 50,000 m2 of rentable area in Täby Centrum will be renovated and additional 30,000 m2 of new rentable shopping area will be created. Furthermore, the existing 2,400 parking spaces will increase to 3,600.
Construction will start in October 2010 and completion in March 2015. The owner of Täby Centrum is Unibail-Rodamco, Europe’s leading listed commercial property operator, investor and developer.
