Flatiron, one of the nation's largest transportation and infrastructure contractors, has been awarded more than $160 million in new transportation, underground, and water contracts.
In Los Angeles, the California Department of Transportation awarded Flatiron a $109 million contract to construct approximately four miles of new high occupancy vehicle lanes along Interstate 5, including two new connector bridges from Route 170 to Interstate 5 north. The project began in July and will last approximately four years.
Flatiron also secured three additional contracts in Southern California. The first requires the installation of new 42- and 36-inch waterline for the Mojave Water Agency in Apple Valley, Calif. The $7.8 million project began in July and will be completed in the summer 2011.
In San Diego, Flatiron is executing a $24.3 million contract as a subcontractor to the joint venture of Turner, Flatiron and PCL Construction Services, Inc. The latest contract, part of a larger terminal expansion project known as The Green Build at the San Diego International Airport, includes construction and paving of two new aprons at Terminal 2. This subcontract began in August and is slated for completion in 2013.
Flatiron is also retrofitting a rail bridge for the San Diego North County Transit District in Del Mar, Calif. Flatiron will begin work for the $2.8 million contract in September and complete the bridge in February 2011.
Flatiron also secured a series of projects in Utah. The first, a $2.8 million contract to construct the new Green River Pumping Station near Vernal, Utah, includes a concrete intake structure, vertical turbine pumps and associated work. This project for the Uintah Water Conservancy District began in July and will be completed in the spring of 2011. Flatiron will also modify an existing surface water treatment plant in Vernal. This $12.2 million contract for the Central Utah Water Conservancy District began in July and will take approximately two years to complete.
