BuildingIQ, an energy management software company, today announced the U.S. launch of its Predictive Energy Optimization System. BuildingIQ enables commercial property owners to reduce building energy consumption and costs without costly or resource-intensive building upgrades.
The System interfaces with existing building infrastructure to proactively and continuously optimize the building’s energy use and achieve substantial reductions in HVAC energy usage.
BuildingIQ can be deployed in virtually any new or existing building with a building management system (BMS), and will start saving energy almost immediately after deployment. Compared to alternative energy efficiency solutions, BuildingIQ does not just provide reports or recommendations but actually manages existing systems to deliver verified savings, which typically range from 10 to 20 percent of total building energy.
BuildingIQ leverages existing building information, external data and proprietary algorithms to drive savings. Using data from the BMS to learn the building’s thermal characteristics and the capacity of its energy systems, the building model is then combined with external data such as weather forecasts and energy prices to plan the optimal way to manage the building’s energy. BuildingIQ is unique in its ability to manage the building to achieve specific outcomes for energy use, cost and tenant comfort – such as achieving a certain Energy Star rating. The System is updated continuously, and adapts in real-time to changes in internal or external conditions.
Tenant comfort is a key component of BuildingIQ. While traditional energy management systems focus on pre-set temperature settings, BuildingIQ’s optimization is based on a zone-by-zone comfort model to ensure occupant satisfaction. In addition, BuildingIQ’s desktop application, ComfortIQ, allows tenants to provide real-time comfort feedback to tailor individual zones within a building, further enhancing comfort.
In a shift from industry convention, BuildingIQ is offered on a pay-as-you-go subscription basis, thereby eliminating the need for large, upfront capital expenditures to generate substantial energy savings.
“Energy efficiency is the greatest near-term opportunity to save energy, and, with HVAC systems in commercial buildings representing approximately 10 percent of total emissions, BuildingIQ can have a major impact on energy use in this country,” said Michael Zimmerman, CEO of BuildingIQ. “Our system represents the next generation of energy management in buildings, and our business model and standards-based technology means it can be widely deployed.”
