Ribbon Court , a £6.5m care home in Coventry built for Accord Housing Association was completed four weeks ahead of schedule because of the use of large format aircrete Multi Plates and thin joint Celfix mortar. H+H supplied a through-the-wall solution including all of the lintels, aircrete, ties, mortar, damp-proof course (DPC), cavity trays and bed-joint reinforcement – everything except the doors and windows.
The larger format Multi Plates (610x370x100mm) meant three courses were eliminated per lift. Along with the thinner 2mm joints using a fifth less volume than conventional mortar, this made for a much quicker, cleaner and more airtight building. Also, floor heights were designed to match Multi Plate dimensions, meaning no lengthy and wasteful cutting at these points. The external walls are thermally insulated to a U-value of 0.29W/m2k, while the internal walls achieve a 50dB acoustic rating.
The Ribbon Court development comprises 50 one and two-bedroom apartments for residents with special care needs. The on-site amenities include consultancy rooms, activity rooms, communal lounges, a hairdresser’s, café restaurant, landscaped garden and a reception area waterfall.
