They say good things come in small packages, and for consumers, GE Lighting is delivering in a big way.
GE’s new Reveal® Glass Covered CFL is now available in 9-watt, 15-watt and 20-watt bulbs and produces the clean, beautiful light® consumers have come to expect from Reveal® products, with the look of standard incandescent bulbs.
Reveal® Glass Covered CFLs use less wattage than Reveal® incandescent bulbs, with 9-watt, 15-watt and 20-watt Reveal® CFLs the equivalent of the 40-watt, 60-watt and 75-watt incandescent bulbs, respectively. This translates to 75 percent less energy usage and, based on an electricity rate of 10¢/kWh, energy savings between $24-$44 in electricity costs over the life of the bulb, depending on which wattage is used. While the outside appearance looks like a standard incandescent bulb, energy-efficient Reveal® Glass Covered CFLs last eight times as long, or about five years (based on four hours use per day for the 8,000-hour rated life).
“Our goal is to give homeowners options when selecting the right type of efficient lighting for their space,” says Brian Sroub, chief marketing officer, GE Lighting. “Utilizing Reveal® CFL technology inside a standard-shaped bulb is the latest contribution to our growing line of money- and energy-saving alternatives.”
GE’s Reveal® line is known to provide clean light that filters out dull, yellow rays produced by standard incandescents. The result is lighting that brings out vibrant colors and patterns. Reveal® CFLs are made with a corkscrew shape and have light output of up to 1,050 lumens with the 20-watt bulb, delivering clean, beautiful light®.
“We believe the new look and savings will appeal to homeowners who want the color, energy savings and long-life performance of a GE Reveal® Spiral® CFL, but with the appearance, size and fit of a traditional incandescent bulb,” says Sroub.
The introduction of the new Reveal® CFL is just one way GE is working to meet new government legislation that will slowly phase out standard incandescent bulbs starting in 2012. A recent study commissioned by GE Lighting shows that three out of four consumers are not aware of this pending federal legislation. GE is committed to offering education and access to energy-efficient alternatives.
While retailers determine their own resale price, consumers may find GE Reveal® Glass Covered bulbs in the $6.49 to $8.99 range. The products are available at select retailers where GE products are sold.
