The venue for this years event is a purpose built conference centre at the college, with the opportunity to experience a live sustainable building project incorporating many leading edge sustainable methods of construction. Based at Somerset College of Arts and Technology in Taunton, the new £2.5m Genesis Project, which is a single storey centre, will comprise several 'pavilions' built from environmentally friendly materials such as straw, timber, earth and clay. The pavilions will contain seminar rooms and lecture theatres with exhibition space promoting the very latest in sustainable technology, along with a construction area where visitors can see practical demonstrations of sustainable construction techniques. Genesis is a one-stop shop for both the public and industry to learn about what does and doesn't work in sustainable construction and it's also expected to attract thousands of visitors.
It will also be first centre of its kind in the UK to offer a foundation degree in sustainable construction - a skill that is particularly needed in the South West as the region's construction industry is booming.
