New TV Show to Feature Green Building Technologies from Pulte Homes

Pulte Homes will be featured on This New House—a new magazine-style TV series on the DIY Network— at 8 p.m. EDT Thursday, August 12, 2010. The homebuilder’s award-winning energy efficiency and green technologies at its Villa Trieste community in Las Vegas will be highlighted.

The new television show, from the producers of This Old House, brings viewers inside new homes across the nation that feature innovative building science solutions and cutting edge technologies. In the segment, the show’s co-host Amy Matthews visits Las Vegas to learn about the green and energy-saving features at Villa Trieste by Pulte Homes.

Homes at Villa Trieste are designed with the latest in energy-efficient features including Eco-Concierge Dashboards, solar photo-voltaic panels, advanced insulation materials and tank-less hot water heaters. Villa Trieste is Pulte’s first LEED for Homes Platinum community, a certification with the U.S. Green Building Council that measures the “green” performance of a home by looking at things like energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality and construction materials used on site. Located in the Summerlin master plan, the two-story new home community features home designs from 1,487 to 1,777 square feet.

“Villa Trieste represents the next logical step in our pursuit to build a better, more energy efficient, home,” said Walter Cuculic, PulteGroup Inc.’s national director of sustainability, who is interviewed by Matthews in the segment. Cuculic said that the 185-unit community is part of a public-private partnership between the UNLV Center for Energy Research, NV Energy and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to develop a community that will significantly reduce peak residential energy demand and significantly lower home buyers utility bills.

Homes in Villa Trieste score a 43 on the Department of Energy’s E-scale which represents a 57% increase in energy efficiency as measured against the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. Additionally, the homes decrease indoor water use by 35% and approximately 75% of waste from the construction process at Villa Trieste is diverted from landfills. The homes are built under the Environments for Living® Certified Green program, which guarantees both energy usage as well as a comfort level in the homes.
