Watpac’s Specialty Services division has drawn on its design and construction strengths to win almost $44 million worth of unique projects in recent months.
The division is renowned for its high-quality refurbishment and design and construct capabilities, completing highly specialised work for clients with very specific needs in areas such as health, education, and food processing and manufacturing.
Most recently, Watpac Specialty Services was awarded the $24.5 million G52 Griffith University International Building at the institution’s Gold Coast campus.
The four-storey building—home to the Griffith English Language Institute and the Queensland Institute of Business and Technology—will be constructed on a greenfield site, with excellent exposure to the busy Smith Street.
Construction will begin in October, and is expected to be completed by November next year.
The team has also been awarded the Brisbane Markets Northern Warehouse and Gatehouse construction project at Rocklea.
This $9.4 million project will involve the construction of a new cold storage facility in excess of 4,500m2 that will primarily be used for storing, packing, and value-adding fresh produce for customers by local and abroad.
The warehouse will feature high humidity, fast-cool rooms which require a unique set of construction and design skills to complete.
Other recently secured construction projects include the Kenmore Village Library in Brisbane’s western suburbs, and the Coates Hire facility at Kingston Industrial Estate in Brisbane’s south.
Watpac Specialty Services is also undertaking detailed design work for a number of projects, including the Griffith University N76 Campus Heart Commercial Building and Plaza at the University’s Nathan campus in Brisbane, and several poultry processing projects.
Greg Kempton, Watpac Managing Director, said the recent contract wins were indicative of Specialty Services’ strengths and diversity.
“Our Specialty Services division has rapidly earned a reputation for being able to successfully complete highly-complex projects, from the design phase right through to construction,” Mr Kempton said.
“These new projects are demonstrative of not only the team’s design and construct abilities, but also of the varied nature of their skills and expertise.
“We’re looking forward to being able to build on this reputation for excellence with these projects, and to delivering top-quality products to our clients.”
The division’s high-quality of work was recently recognised at the Queensland Master Builders Association (Sunshine Coast) Awards, where the team received an award for their Coolum Beach Retail Project, winning the Retail Facilities $4 million–$15 million category.
Other projects currently underway by Watpac Specialty Services include the $11 million Brisbane Boys College Hall in Toowong, and the $8 million Park Avenue Hotel refurbishment in Rockhampton.
The team also recently completed the $35 million refurbishment and expansion of St Vincent’s Hospital (formerly Mt Olivet Hospital) at Kangaroo Point, the Griffith University N34 Science Building at Nathan, the Cope Sensitive Freight Warehouse Extension at Yatala, and the Doomben Members Stand Renovation in Brisbane.
