TD AMERITRADE Holding Corporation (NASDAQ: AMTD) today broke ground on a new, 12-story office tower and pavilion.
The building, which will top 200 feet and cover 475,000 square feet of office space, is part of a master plan that will establish a corporate campus in Omaha (Neb.), home to a third of the company’s nearly 6,000 full-time associates. The new facility will house associates supporting the Company’s corporate, operations and technology units.
Sustainability and green design have been a major focus of the project. The Company’s objective is to build just the second building in the state of Nebraska to earn LEED® Platinum Certification by the Green Building Certification Institute, the highest level of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program available. If certified, this new facility would rank as one of the largest Platinum-certified office buildings in the country.
“This project is more than new construction. It’s a commitment to our associates and the city of Omaha, where we were founded 35 years ago. We intend to maintain a major presence in this community, both as a top employer and community partner,” said Fred Tomczyk, president and chief executive officer. “And, at a time when resource consciousness is key to long-term sustainability, we are proud to include the pursuit of LEED certification in our efforts.”
In its effort to earn LEED® Platinum certification, TD AMERITRADE plans to incorporate many green design components into the new facility’s construction, including:
- Clean, open, functional workplaces, exposing most workstations to natural daylight and outside views
- Less energy consumption through efficient mechanical, electrical, air handling and plumbing systems like:
- High performance exterior window wall
- Natural daylighting, light control and sensors
- Individually controlled thermal comfort through an under floor air system
- Low water consumption restrooms and irrigation
- Use of local, recyclable and low-emitting building materials that limit the release of pollutants into the air
- Minimal environmental impact through native landscaping and open green space, with approximately seven acres of green space adjacent to building
“TD AMERITRADE is one of the best known companies in the U.S., and we are proud that its business roots started here in Nebraska,” said Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman. “This new corporate campus reinforces the close working relationship TD AMERITRADE has with the citizens of Omaha and Nebraska, and the positive economic environment we have created, which allows businesses to grow from start-up to Fortune 1,000 status.”
“TD AMERITRADE is a valued member of Omaha’s business community and we are thrilled to see the start of construction for their new corporate campus,” said Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle. “Nothing is more important than creating and preserving jobs for the citizens of Omaha and today’s ground breaking is another example of the outstanding partnership our city has developed with the business community.”
