Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that it received a contract from The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) to provide engineering and construction management services for the expansion of its facility in Fombio, Italy. The expansion will accommodate the manufacturing of uniform particle size (UPS) copolymers to be used in ion exchange resins.
Officials did not disclose the contract value.
The scope of the contract includes a range of services from detailed design and construction management activities, up to mechanical completion. The project includes the installation of new process equipment. The new equipment covers two existing buildings and includes an upgrade and tie-in of existing utilities and a new control system. Jacobs is expected to execute the project from their Milan, Italy office.
The expansion of Dow's Fombio facility makes use of industry-leading manufacturing technologies from both Dow and Rohm and Haas, to further increase the efficiency of the UPS copolymers manufacturing process. The project is part of a broader strategy of Dow's Water and Process Solutions business to improve efficiencies and streamline its asset grid, also reducing inter-regional freight with positive impact on its carbon footprint. This is Dow's first European UPS copolymers production site.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Robert Matha stated, "We are committed to supporting Dow in consolidating their UPS copolymers production in Europe and in continuing to help them lead the industry in providing high-performance ion exchange resins. We have a long-standing relationship with Dow and are pleased that they have selected us on this very important project."
