SNC-Lavalin to Construct Thermal Plant for Alaska's Largest Electric Utility

SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by Chugach Electric Association, Alaska's largest electric utility, to design and build the Southcentral Power Project in Anchorage, Alaska.

SNC-Lavalin's mandate includes engineering, balance of plant procurement and construction for a 183 MW natural gas-fired combined cycle thermal power plant. Chugach is securing the purchase of the power island equipment directly from the equipment suppliers for SNC-Lavalin to install and commission with the balance of plant.

"SNC-Lavalin's thermal team is a leader in the US in cogeneration and alternative fuel projects. We will be using the best practices and methodologies we have developed designing and building more than 60,000 MW in thermal power projects worldwide," said Patrick Lamarre, Executive Vice-President, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. "We will be using GE LM6000-PF proven technology on this project, which will make the plant more fuel-efficient than the existing power plants currently operating in the region".

Work has begun and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
