TLCD Architecture, a team of architects, interior designers, and collaborators designing community-oriented projects throughout Northern California, announced today that they are now under contract with the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) for the New Lakeport Courthouse. The proposed project will provide a new four-courtroom courthouse to replace the court’s overcrowded and unsafe space in Lakeport.
TLCD Architecture is teamed with Boston-based firm Shepley Bulfinch for design and implementation of the new $71.7 million courthouse project. The team last worked together on the successful Frank P. Doyle Library at Santa Rosa Junior College, which finished construction in 2006.
The new courthouse is among the first of 41 projects to be funded by the Senate Bill 1407, which finances critically needed courthouse construction, renovation, and repair in California through a portion of judicial branch fees, penalties, and assessments.
“We are fortunate that the Judicial Council has placed the Lake County Courthouse as one of the first projects funded in the State, and we are very pleased with this selection of an architecture partnership that will bring both Northern California experience and national expertise to our new courthouse,” said Presiding Judge Richard C. Martin, Superior Court of Lake County.
The TLCD Architecture + Shepley Bulfinch team looks forward to working with the Court, community members, and the AOC to design a building that creates a sense of place. “This project is not only critically needed by the Lakeport Court, but also offers an incredible opportunity to re-energize the civic presence for this community,” said Mark Adams, Project Manager at TLCD.
The AOC has identified a preferred site for the New Lakeport Courthouse at 675 Lakeport Boulevard, adjacent to the Visitor’s Center; with an alternative site on Martin Street near Bevins Street. Site selection and acquisition typically take a year or more. Once engaged, the architecture team can begin preliminary space programming.
