Harmonizer-AVR Technology Now Seen Attractive for New Construction and Building Retrofits

Legend Power Systems Inc. ("Legend Power") (TSX: LPS) (FSE: XLE) recently engaged Mindscape Innovations to complete a Performance Assessment by Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) of the company's patented smart grid technology, the Electrical Harmonizer-AVR.

This resulted in Legend Power's technology achieving a "very noteworthy" five point contribution level, effectively opening up the attractive design-in market for new construction and major facility retrofits.

Mindscape is one of Canada's leading professional services firms in the commercial and residential energy ratings market, providing consulting and certification services for all LEED Canada and matching LEED US programs, as well as EnerGuide and ENERGY STAR.

LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. The Electrical Harmonizer-AVR's direct LEED point contribution ranges from 3-5 points making it a significant contributor to any of its related point categories (14%-28%), and a strong component of a building's overall LEED score required to be Certified (6%-13%).

"5 points is a very noteworthy contribution in my experience, it is rare that a single product/technology can have this high of an impact. I don't have experience with evaluating other voltage optimization technologies, but since LEED emphasizes reductions in energy cost (rather than just energy), Legend Power has the advantage over many other energy savings technologies since it impacts electricity (the more expensive portion of a building's energy use), compared to other technologies that may generate heating fuel savings but not electricity savings," said Kyle Anders MASc, Sustainable Design Specialist with Mindscape Innovations.

The report also notes that, "In addition to the contributions made in the above green rating systems, Legend Power's Harmonizer-AVR has other noteworthy environmental benefits that should be promoted: life extension benefits for building equipment to reduce maintenance costs and waste, and reduction in utilities peak demand which increases capacity within the existing generation and distribution infrastructure. It is recommended that these benefits be expressed as the legitimate benefits they are, and communicated in targeted and appropriate ways, alongside the benefits referenced to the specific rating systems above."
