EllisDon announced today that four of its projects have achieved LEED(R) certification through the Canada Green Building Council. Bay Adelaide Centre (BAC) in Toronto, ON, has achieved LEED CS Gold; 5750 Explorer Drive in Mississauga, ON, has achieved LEED NC Silver; Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) - Waterfront Campus in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, has achieved LEED NC Silver; and the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, ON, has achieved LEED NC Silver.
Bay Adelaide Centre - Toronto, ON
Certification on the BAC was announced at the beginning of last month, on May 5th. EllisDon was the Construction Manager for the BAC, owned and operated by Brookfield Properties. Construction started in April 2006 and the project was completed July 2009. The list of environmental enhancements on the BAC includes a reconstructed heritage façade, a rain water collection system, a white roof to mitigate the heat island effect and lighting occupancy sensors. At 51 stories and 1.16 million rentable sq. ft. of space, the Bay Adelaide Centre sets a record as the largest LEED building in Canada, at the time of certification.
On May 14th, the CaGBC featured EllisDon's 5750 Explorer Drive project in their monthly e-newsletter. The building was certified by the CaGBC earlier in the year on January 5th. EllisDon was the Design Builder on this project, owned by Explorer Drive Equities, and developed by Redcliff Realty Advisors. Construction began in June 2006 and was completed November 2007. From the adoption of a green housekeeping program to energy efficient design features, to air quality enhancements such as carbon dioxide monitoring, and spatial features such as outdoor views for its occupants; 5750 Explorer Drive is an office building intended to provide tenants with measurable health, environmental and operating cost benefits.
Certification was announced on Nova Scotia Community College's Waterfront Campus building on May 20th 2010. EllisDon was the Construction Manager on the project, started in July of 2004 and completed in December of 2006. The Waterfront Campus boasts recycled material use, thermally efficient walls and windows carrying natural light deep into public areas, and enhanced energy performance. At the time of certification, the Waterfront Campus was the second building in Nova Scotia to achieve LEED Silver certification. NSCC's Centre for the Built Environment is the second phase of the Waterfront Campus project, slated to open in September 2010. EllisDon is also Construction Manager on this project, which is targeting LEED Gold certification.
Just last week, on May 25th, certification was announced on the K-Rock Centre, located in downtown Kingston, Ontario. EllisDon was the Design Builder on this entertainment complex, owned by the City of Kingston. The project started in June 2006, and was completed in April 2008. Several LEED credits were earned under the Innovation & Design Process category including Green Education, Green Housekeeping, Low Emitting Materials - Furniture, and Water Use Reduction of 40%. The K-Rock Centre is Ontario's largest LEED-certified spectator arena with a total project size of 12,452 m(2).
