Schuff Steel Company, a subsidiary of Schuff International, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: SHFK), a leading family of steel companies providing fully integrated steel construction services, has been awarded a new contract for steel fabrication and erection for a 170,000 square foot data center in Silicon Valley. Turner Construction Company is the general contractor on the project.
Schuff also recently completed steel fabrication and erection services for a new two-story office complex for Solyndra in Fremont. The project utilized a Buckling-Restrained Braced Frame (BRBF) and will be LEED certified when complete. Rudolph and Sletten is the general contractor on the project.
Steel fabrication for both projects was performed in the company's recently acquired Stockton, California steel plant. The combined projects totaled 3,000 tons of steel. To meet the accelerated schedules of both projects, Schuff used its one-of-a-kind beam line system manufactured by Daito. The 100 percent fully automated system includes a Carbide drilling machine, plasma coping machine, two band saws, and a mill beveling machine (the only one in the United States). The machine is suitable for commercial, industrial and specialized steel fabrication, including steel used for alternative energy projects such as solar and wind. Schuff's Stockton facility is strategically located on the Port of Stockton and the railway system.
