Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Amex:BKR), announced today that Kiewit-Mortenson Joint Venture, based in Kapolei, Hawaii, is one of seven companies to be awarded a multiple award construction contract (MACC) by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific to compete for design and construction projects on Guam and other areas in the NAVFAC Pacific area.
Baker is the lead architectural and engineering firm on the Kiewit-Mortenson JV team for buildings, as well as airport and airfield projects. The total capacity of the combined MACC contract for construction of facilities and infrastructure is $4 billion with each of the seven contracts being for a 12-month base period with four, one-year option periods.
Projects to be performed under the MACC include, but are not limited to, dormitories, administration, communications, educational, medical, dining, recreational, retail, industrial, and operational training facilities. The contract also provides for the design and construction of roads, streets, bridges, site utilities, waterfront-marine facilities, aviation facilities and infrastructure. Projects performed under the MACC will incorporate sustainability features such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building standards.
Baker’s David M. Martin, P.E., vice president and facilities service area manager, said, “We are very pleased to be a member of the Kiewit-Mortenson JV that has been selected for this significant opportunity.”
