Arbor Acres Selects Interior Solutions to Design Interiors of New Buildings

Interior Solutions, Inc., a comprehensive interior design firm based in Winston-Salem, has been awarded a contract with Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community. The firm will be designing the interiors for the new Assisted Living and MemoryCare buildings, which are currently under construction.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to create a beautiful, warm and welcoming environment for the people who live here,” said Emmy Williams, ASID, IIDA, founder of Interior Solutions. “We will be creating a safe, comfortable residential atmosphere where residents enjoy gathering with their friends and family.”

The Assisted Living building is Arbor Acres’ first building from the ground up that focuses entirely on this level of care. The three-story building will be approximately 117,000 square feet with 42 one-bedroom apartments, six two-bedroom apartments and 12 large single rooms, and includes many amenities such as a bathing spa and state-of-the-art therapeutic pool. The MemoryCare building is an addition of 12 apartments and an activity center to the existing building.

“With an amenity-rich environment such as this, we have a tremendous opportunity for using design to create the most positive and pleasant living experience that nurtures the mind, body and spirit,” Williams said. “We have added cabinetry details to enhance the architectural style, and we have chosen carpeting, light fixtures, fabrics with florals and stripes, and traditionally styled furniture that feels very residential, yet meets commercial fire and durability codes. The style is very traditional and appropriate to the people who live here.”

Arbor Acres invited four interior design firms to submit proposals for the project and then invited two firms to return and present preliminary plans for a central lobby. Each firm’s plans were then evaluated by the community’s Appearance Committee.

“We were looking for talent, proven track record, the ability to work with committees and compatibility as part of a larger owner-architect-contractor-designer team,” said David Piner, Arbor Acres’ executive director. “We found Interior Solutions’ ideas to be fresh and bold in creating the kind of atmosphere we wanted to create for our residents.”

Site work on the new buildings has begun with a plan to complete MemoryCare by December 2010 and Assisted Living by December 2011. The project’s architect is Pennsylvania-based Reese, Lower, Patrick & Scott, Ltd., and the contractor is Winston-Salem-based Landmark Builders.
