Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO:6503) announced today it has installed five large-capacity elevators at Umeda Hankyu Building's new office area which opened on May 6, 2010 in Osaka, Japan.
The largest capacity passenger elevators to date in Japan can each carry up to 80 passengers, or 5,250 kilograms in load. The interior of each car is 3.4m wide, 2.8m long and 2.6m high, with a floor space of 9.52 square meters. The cars are equipped with glass windows allowing passengers to view outside.
The five elevators are operated as shuttle elevators carrying a large number of passengers nonstop from the Entrance Lobby on the first floor to the Sky Lobby on the 15th floor. Umeda Hankyu Building has a double layer structure, with Hankyu Department Store Umeda Main Store occupying the lower levels from floors B2 through 13, and offices located on the higher levels from floors 15 through 41. The elevators provide Umeda Hankyu office employees and visitors direct access to the office area. On the 15th floor, passengers are able to select from three different elevator banks according to their destination. The A bank serves floors 17 through 25, the B bank serves floors 26 through 33 and the C bank serves floors 34 through 41. There are six new elevators for each bank, also supplied by Mitsubishi Electric.
Mitsubishi Electric has also installed two other elevators for the new office area, bringing the total number of elevators installed by the company at the building to 25.
