Alcoa announced that Presto Products Company, a business of Alcoa Consumer Products, provided the walkways for the 100,000 fans that filtered into Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, FL to watch the Philadelphia Eagles take on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX.
"Our Geoweb Load Support System was installed in three separate walkway areas in preparation of receiving thousands of fans at Alltel Stadium," said Gary Bach, Presto's GEOSYSTEMS Business Unit Manager. "The 80x120 foot walkways will provide a stable walking surface over soft soils for the heavy pedestrian traffic that is anticipated as fans exit the buses and head out to watch the championship game."
Approximately 27,000 square feet of the Alcoa-Presto Geoweb Load Support System was installed along the walkways. The Geoweb system is made of sheets of polyethylene honeycombed, interconnecting cells that are laid down and filled with aggregate stone. The system stabilizes the walkway by providing an even load over weak soils.
The Geoweb system is used in other load support applications from trails, roadway and parking areas to intermodal, railroad and port facilities. GEOSYSTEMS produces specialty products for slope and channel protection, load support and earth retention. These engineered materials are used by landscaping and construction industry clients worldwide.
