Turner’s New Construction Management Academy Program for York College Students and Small Businesses

Turner Construction Company, in partnership with the York College School of Business and the Small Business Development Center, have developed the first undergraduate accredited program based on the Turner School of Construction Management training program curriculum for York College students and area small businesses.  The course offering will begin on June 1 at the York College School of Business in Queens, N.Y.

Turner staff along with professors from York College will lead the advanced Turner School of Construction Management (TSCM), entitled the Construction Management Academy. Students can earn up to 9 credits toward an undergraduate degree at York College upon successful completion of the six month course.

The Construction Management Academy program syllabus covers a wide range of industry topics and will provide students and small business owners with the tools necessary to pursue work in the private and public sectors.  The core disciplines include Project Management, Finance, Marketing, Sustainable Building, Field Management and Construction Scheduling. There will also be elective classes that include Estimating, Building Information Modeling and Safety.

"Turner is committed to promoting partnerships and relationships in the communities we serve.  We are proud to have the opportunity to partner with York College and the Small Business Development Center to take our Turner School of Construction Management training program to the next level through the first-ever Construction Management Academy accredited program," said Stephanie Burns, Turner's New York Director of Community Affairs.

The Turner School of Construction Management was established more than 40 years ago. Today, the training program is offered in more than 70 cities across the country and includes more than 15,000 graduates.

The TSCM has been crucial in helping Turner achieve success in awarding more than 52,000 contracts with a value in excess of $18 billion to minority- and women-owned business enterprises. For the past five years, Turner has surpassed the milestone of awarding more than $1 billion of contracts to M/WBE firms.
