gkkworks Purchases Construction Subsidiary of SH Group

Holding company, SH Group Inc., has sold its construction subsidiary, Syska Hennessy Group Construction, Inc. to California-based planning, design and construction firm, gkkworks.

SH Group, which is also parent to Syska Hennessy Group, Inc. (one of the world’s largest multi-disciplined engineering and consulting firms) has been in talks with gkkworks for the last several months and finalized the acquisition effective, May 1, 2010.

Syska Hennessy Group Construction (SHGC), whose portfolio includes the expansion and renovation of key infrastructure projects for the Department of Defense, mission critical facilities, as well as Fortune 500 companies in the public and private sector, experienced tremendous success under the leadership of President/COO, Bill Line (PE, LEED AP), and Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Dan McNary (PE).

According to Line, who helped establish SHGC in 1996, “In the last three years we’ve grown rapidly using our expertise with strong delivery to the Federal Government and commercial construction sectors.” Added McNary, who oversees the company’s private sector commercial clients, “Despite the economic downturn, there has been a steady amount of activity in the technology business, and we’ve experienced significant growth in our mission critical business, including data centers and switching facilities for Fortune 500 clients.”

Gary Brennen, Co-CEO of SH Group commented, “We believe this is a great move for our construction unit, and this spin-off enables them to continue their exceptional growth.” SH Group’s strategic move to divest its construction entity allows its engineering subsidiary, Syska Hennessy Group, to focus on the growth of their core business of engineering design, consulting and commissioning services. Syska Hennessy Group’s offerings cover multiple markets including: Aviation, Aquariums, Convention Centers, Critical Facilities, Entertainment & Broadcast, Government, Healthcare, Science & Technology, Health Sciences, Higher Education, Real Estate, Sports Venues and more.

Going forward, Syska Hennessy Group will also be positioned to leverage their high performance consulting practice in response to increased opportunities. Cyrus Izzo, Co-CEO of SH Group, added, “The transition will allow us to more clearly focus on our vision of creating exceptional environments by accelerating our investments in our engineering team members, high performance tools and strategies to continue to elevate our consulting engineering practice.”
