MWH Constructors to Serve as CMAR for New Piedmont WWTP Project

MWH, the global wet infrastructure sector leader and provider of environmental engineering, construction and strategic consulting services, announced today that MWH Constructors has been selected to serve as construction manager-at-risk (CMAR) for the new $30 – 45 million Piedmont Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Greenville County, S.C.

MWH Constructors was awarded the CMAR contract by Renewable Water Resources (ReWa), a South Carolina-based water utility serving approximately 119,000 industrial, commercial and residential accounts in the growing region. This win provides MWH Constructors a base in the progressive Mid-Atlantic region with a prominent client at the forefront of watershed protection in the area.

MWH Constructors has an exclusive subcontractor agreement with Harper Corporation, Inc., a Greenville-based general contractor that will assist in the pre-construction and construction phases. Pre-construction is scheduled to begin in April of this year.

“It’s a privilege to be named construction manager-at-risk for the ReWa Piedmont WWTP project that will further protect the public health and water quality for the residents and businesses in the Upstate region,” said Blair M. Lavoie, senior vice president and director of U.S. operations for MWH Constructors. “As with many of our U.S. projects, we’re committed to supporting the local economy and businesses through subcontractor relationships. We look forward to partnering with Harper Corporation on this project that will serve the community for many years.”

Located on the west side of the Saluda River near Piedmont, S.C., the new plant will replace the existing Grove Creek and Piedmont treatment plants. According to ReWa, the new plant will regionalize treatment of wastewater by treating flows from several existing wastewater treatment plants and areas currently not served. It is expected to have an initial capacity of 4 million gallons per day (mgd) with plans to expand to 8 mgd and then 12 mgd.
