Department of Veterans Affairs Chooses PJ Dick to Build Pittsburgh Research Building

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has announced the selection of PJ Dick, a Pittsburgh, Pa-based company, as the building contractor to construct the proposed research office building at the University Drive located Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. The new building will incorporate the latest research facilities to support the health care of Veterans.

As per the terms of the contract, PJ Dick will demolish the four buildings that exist at the site and build a new three story construction measuring 100,000 square foot. The proposed building will have a laboratory, office and support spaces and a helipad over the roof for emergency transport of patients to hospitals close by. The new building will also have 82 parking spaces both on the west and south side of the building. The construction of the building is anticipated to start in late spring this year and is scheduled for completion on October 2013.

The University Drive complex in addition to the construction of Research Building is also constructing a mental health pavilion. It has completed a parking garage last year. The Heinz VA Center located in Aspinwall, has the recently constructed administration building, an ambulatory care center and a domiciliary. The total cost of the construction is estimated to be $295 million
