AECOM Awarded Contract for New Orleans Streetcar Expansion Project

AECOM Technology, a company that provides technical and management support services for a variety of markets such as the government, transportation, energy, water and environment all over the world, has received US$10.6 million in contract to carry out the second phase of the New Orleans Streetcar Expansion that is in the Rampart/St. Claude corridor.

AECOM, under the contract, will get ready the final design data for the second phase of the extension project. The expansion will span over a mile of the entrenched transit corridor of Rampart/St. Claude in the center of the city that serves the French Quarter and the other neighborhoods. The company will also offer two environmental evaluations for the planned Loyola Line expansions from Loyola Avenue to Carondelet Street on Howard Avenue and the St. Claude line expansions from Elysian Fields Avenue to Poland Avenue.

The Loyola Line was already underway before the Rampart/St. Claude expansion project was declared. AECOM has designed the Loyola Line project and a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER I) Grant was issued to fund the project.

Since the early predominant planning phase AECOM has played a notable part in the 2002 New Orleans Streetcar Extension project on the Canal Street, AECOM has been engaged with the streetcar program. The Loyola Line project’s design was begun in January 2011 and construction is expected to be completed during 2012. The second phase of the expansion project, the Rampart/St. Claude corridor, is slated to be completed during August 2014.

John M. Dionisio, chairman and chief executive officer of AECOM, stated that this expansion project will contribute to the ongoing growth of New Orleans.
