The council of Lac Seul First Nation and Chief Clifford Bull has announced that the construction of a new community arena has commenced at Frenchman’s Head, the reserve community of Lac Seul.
Once completed, the community arena will feature a CHL ice plant and ice surface along with the sports training facilities meant to boost the wellness and health opportunities for the youth of the community. In addition to the sports complex, Lac Seul First Nation will also construct conference facilities with advanced technology capabilities. It will be designed to accommodate 60 delegates and will feature four break-out rooms. Space will also be allocated for retail shops and restaurants. This project will help create eight construction jobs and once completed, it will create four full-time positions.
The Chief of Lac Seul, Clifford Bull stated that the community centre’s sport facility will help reinforce Lac Seul’s broomball and hockey traditions. The steps have been taken so that the future generation of Lac Seul can reap the benefits.
The development and construction of the arena will be fully financed by Lac Seul First Nation using a portion of the proceeds received by the timber trespass settlement recently fulfilled with the Government of Canada.
Lac Seul is located approximately 24 mi northwest of the Sioux Lookout. The on-reserve communities comprising Lac Seul are Canoe River, Whitefish Bay, Frenchman’s Head and Kejick Bay.
